Celithemis Eponina, North America and Mexico
The Halloween Pennnant Dragonfly has yellow and black tiger stripes on the
sides of its thorax and wing, or its eyes, which are a beautiful dark reddish
brown, like well-polished horse chestnuts. No one knows what these two species'
wing coloration is good for; they may be mimicking distasteful butterflies
such as the Monarch.
In adult males, colored rectangular spots on the front
edge of each wing (pterostigmata), become red near the tip.
