Cymothoe sangaris, West African rain
forests
The Sangaris butterfly is nearly blood-red in color and is found in West
Africa only at the edge of the rain forests. The underside of the wings
are in sharp contrast to the u pperside
because they resemble the camouflage of dead leaves.
This red butterfly is Classified under the Order: Lepidoptera (butterflies
and moths), Family: Nymphalidae, which means brush-footed butterflies.
Scientists believe their wings collect sun rays to heat up their body
plasma.
